11 official languages are spoken in South Africa! But you get along well with English everywhere. In addition to English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa (the ones with the clicks) are spoken in the region.
But then isiZulu, Siswati, South Ndebele, Sesotho, Sepedi, Xitsonga, Setswana & Thsivenda are also spoken.
Currency:
The South African currency is the Rand (R).
1 R is made up of 100 cents. There are coins of 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c,
1 R, 2 R, 5 R, as well as notes of 10 R, 20 R, 50 R, 100 R and 200 R

Yes, there is increased crime in South Africa - no question about it!
Most of the crimes take place in the townships. And then on the weekend. And there is alcohol involved, a lot of alcohol. Probably then it’s probably still about women and girls ...
A vacationer will hardly be in danger. None of our guests was robbed or attacked. Of course, it is not to say that caution should be exercised.
But approach the holiday with an open mind - the South Africans are all very friendly, nice and helpful!
Foreign health insurance
Please check before departure whether you have international health insurance. The insurance is partly covered by an ADAC membership, partly by the credit card company (if you pay for the trip with your credit card). But please inquire before you start.
If you don't have international health insurance, then
necessarily take out a foreign health insurance!
Vaccinations
- are not required for South Africa. Here in the Eastern Cape, as in the Western Cape, there is no malaria. Malaria only occurs in the Kruger National Park and then only at certain times.
There aren't even mosquitos on our property ...
Cell phone and SIM cards
Calling with a German SIM card is quite expensive. Get a South African SIM card! You can do that in South Africa without any problems. If you want to be on the safe side and also want to know the telephone number in advance, you can order a SIM card for South Africa in Germany.
